The RAS Foundation provides scholarships to help rural Australians realise their potential through education, make a difference in their community and achieve their ambitions.

RAS Foundation Rural Scholarships

Students in regional areas often have to relocate in order to study, leaving behind the support of family and friends and feeling torn between their education and their obligations. Fortunately, assistance in the form of a RAS Foundation Rural Scholarship can help ease some worries and allow greater freedom to more regularly visit home and lend a hand. Our Rural Scholarship program goes a small way to ensure students from regional areas can chase the same education dreams as students from metropolitan areas. Who can apply for a RAS Foundation Rural Scholarship? Rural Scholarships are available to support individuals in NSW including the ACT, who demonstrate a passion for rural communities and commitment for any career that will ensure the future success of rural and regional NSW. Applicants for a Rural Scholarship must: Be enrolled in or applying for study in any accredited tertiary course including Vocational Educational Training (VET) courses at an approved Australian education provider. This includes university, TAFE or college. Demonstrate a desire to contribute to the future of rural and regional NSW. Demonstrate how a scholarship would assist them in achieving their education or training goal. Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Be school leavers having completed a minimum of year 10. Students completing school-based apprenticeships and traineeships are not eligible to apply. What type of courses qualify for the RAS Foundation Rural Scholarship? There is no limit on the types of courses that qualify and you could be studying anything from physiotherapy, teaching and medicine to agriculture, horticulture vet nursing or metal fabrication. There is no age limit for applicants and you can be studying at university, college or TAFE. However, applicants all have one thing in common - a desire to play an active part in the future of rural and regional NSW. Applications for a RAS Foundation Rural Scholarship are now open.

Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship

Image Amy Woodward About the Scholarship The Sydney Royal Wine Show, established in 1826, is one of the most prestigious wine shows in Australia, annually attracting over 2,200 entries from 350 producers across Australia. The Sydney Royal Wine Committee together with the Royal Agricultural Society Foundation (RASF), offers two scholarships programs. The Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship and the Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development Scholarship . These scholarships are funded from the sale of excess stock from the Sydney Royal Wine Show. Sydney Royal is proud to be the first Wine Show in Australia to commit to this form of support for our industry and we hope this initiative continues to grow and evolve across the Australian wine community. The Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarships honour the memory and contribution of Graham Thorp, Chair of the Sydney Royal Wine Committee from 1984 - 1990. Who can apply for the Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship? You could be studying at University, TAFE or a VET course, on campus or by distance learning. Applicants all have one thing in common - a desire to play an active role in the future of the Australian wine industry. Eligibility Guidelines Applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Applicants must be under 30 years of age. Applicants should be available to attend the Sydney Royal Wine Show. Applicants applying to study the Australian Wine Research Institute's Advanced Wine Assessment Course should apply for a Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development Scholarship . What types of courses qualify for the Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship? There is no limit to the types of courses that qualify for the scholarship, however applicants will demonstrate a strong wine industry career pathway through their chosen course of study. This includes a range of certificates, degrees and courses covering skills in agricultural science, horticulture, viticulture, wine education, wine service, lab technology, marketing and journalism. Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development Scholarship

About the Scholarship The Sydney Royal Wine Show, established in 1826, is one of the most prestigious wine shows in Australia, annually attracting over 2200 entries from more than 350 producers across Australia. The Sydney Royal Wine Committee together with the Royal Agricultural Society Foundation (RASF), offers two scholarship programs. The Sydney Royal Wine Study Scholarship and the Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development Scholarship (previously known as the Sydney Royal Wine Assessment Scholarship). These scholarships are funded from the sale of excess stock from the Sydney Royal Wine Show. The Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development Scholarships are supported by the Sydney Royal Wine Committee and in 2021 The Len Evans Tutorial Foundation will also support a scholar to attend the Advanced Wine Assessment Course (AWAC) by the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI). Purpose The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and support professionals who are passionate about wine and committed to forging careers that will contribute to the Australian wine industry. Applicants can apply for a Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development Scholarship to fund courses such as: Australian Wine Research Institute's (AWRI) Advanced Wine Assessment Course (AWAC) AWRI Advanced Viticulture course WSET courses Wine service (including Sommelier) courses Eligibility Guidelines Applicants must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident. Applicants must be employed in the Australian wine industry or engaged in study in a related course. Applicants should be available to attend the Sydney Royal Wine Show. What scholarships are available? Scholarships of up to $6000 are available depending on the professional development course chosen. Applications for the 2023 Sydney Royal Wine Professional Development Scholarship are now closed.

JB Fairfax Award for Rural & Regional Journalism and Communications

The JB Fairfax Award for Rural & Regional Journalism and Communications is a prestigious national award that encourages and supports a young student who is passionate about pursuing a career in rural and regional journalism/communications upon graduation. The Award was established through a private donation from Mr John B Fairfax AO. The Award This Award is an outstanding opportunity to gain a diverse range of practical experience at the coalface of rural and regional reporting, with three relevant internships that will provide a launch pad to a career telling the rich stories from country Australia. The Award includes a $10,000 scholarship along with the following suite of internships providing practical work experience with: The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) Media Team at the Sydney Royal Easter Show Australian Community Media at The Land Newspaper Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in their Brisbane newsroom Applicants for the Award must: Be enrolled to study in any undergraduate or postgraduate courses of relevance at an approved Australian education provider including universities, colleges and education providers such as the Australian Film Television and Radio School. Demonstrate an active interest in rural and regional affairs and in pursuing a career in journalism/communications upon graduation. Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Be aged 30 years or under. How to apply: Complete the online application form and attach your resume and latest academic transcript. Submit an article, blog post, video or audio report of up to 600 words on a topic of your choice. Your piece may have been broadcast or published before.
