Schools Angora Wether Competition

The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW invites all schools with facilities for keeping goats to participate in our Schools Competitions at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Angora Goat Paraders Competition

The Sydney Royal Angora Goat Paraders Competition is for the purpose of educating and encouraging Angora Goat Exhibitors and attendants to parade Exhibits before a Judge in the most efficient manner.

Dairy Goat Paraders Competition

The Sydney Royal Dairy Goat Paraders Competition is for the purpose of educating and encouraging Dairy Goat Exhibitors and attendants to parade Exhibits before a Judge. The Competition is judged by experts of the Dairy Goat industry and consists of parading an animal as though under actual judging conditions. Schools Angora Wether Competition

The Goat Committee of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) is pleased to invite all NSW schools with the facilities for keeping goats to participate in the Sydney Royal Schools Angora Wether Competition. This Competition is proudly supported by the RAS and with prize support from Australian Mohair Marketing Organisation and Mohair Australia Ltd. The 2023 Sydney Royal Schools Angora Wether Competition will run as a trial at your school for approximately six months, and culminate at the Sydney Royal Easter Show as a competition. The Competition is judged by experts from the goat industry and consists of the following components: Production Class: Pen of 3 Angora goats, 12 months and older, in commercial length fleece. Goats are judged on their confirmation, mohair and carcase characteristics. Mohair samples are collected and tested. Goats will be shorn and all fleeces collected, weighed and valued according to current market prices. Herdsmen's Competition: Students will be judged on the best displayed and maintained Pen of 3 goats, including the groomed appearance of the goats, cleanliness and presentation of the pens plus engagement with the public. Project Component: Students are to create a presentation detailing how students have raised goats for show. Presentations are to be presented in-ring. School Goat Competitions Exhibitor information

As part of the requirement to control CAE, the following completed and signed forms must be provided to the section coordinator at the time of entry. These forms will become available on this web page, closer to the 2024 Show: CAE Health Declaration Goat Sale Health Declaration National Goat Health Declaration Please also bring with you a National Vendor Declaration (NVD) OR Transported Stock Statement (TSS). These can be obtained from the Meat and Livestock Association (MLA) or the Department of Primary Industries (DPI). Withdrawal Notification of withdrawals of Exhibits must be submitted to the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) no later than two days prior to the Exhibits day of judging, or they may be subject to a fine. Accommodation Accommodation available for Schools onsite is extremely limited, so we urge teachers to plan accordingly. Site sheds and mezzanine rooms are available to rent. More information will be made available to Exhibitors closer to the 2024 Show. Information about alternate options to our onsite accommodation is available from the downloadable documents section on this page. Parking The RAS is pleased to offer limited parking to teachers in our school competitions. Parking for floats, vans, and trucks is available in P5C and long-term parking for cars and other small vehicles is available in P5B. There are two Goat Young Judges Competitions:

Young Judges

The RAS Young Judges competitions are an opportunity for 15-25 year olds to try their hand in judging a variety of different exhibits such as Alpacas, Goats, Horses, Pigs, Poultry and Horticulture.

School Competitions

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is the largest classroom in New South Wales, it is the place to come to discover how to milk a cow or shear a sheep, how to grow the biggest pumpkins in Australia and even how to use horsepower for electricity. It is also the place students can come and show what they have learned and to be judged for the hard work in agricultural pursuits. In 1875 the first competitions for school students were held – in the areas of needlework, wood carving, natural history collections and drawing. By 1904 school competitions had expanded to include the first display of farm produce by school children – a precursor to the Schools District Exhibit Competition, and in 1935 junior judging of cattle was introduced. The tradition of exhibiting and judging for schools continues today and includes poultry, pig, goat, honey and scarecrows. Entry is free for all schools – city, metropolitan rural and regional.
