Young Judges

The RAS Young Judges competitions are an opportunity for 15-25 year olds to try their hand in judging a variety of different exhibits such as Alpacas, Goats, Horses, Pigs, Poultry and Horticulture.

Together, the RAS and AgShows NSW run State Finals for the Sheep, Cattle, Grain & Fruit Competitions at the Show. Competitors qualify to compete via local events for these prestigious finals

Alpaca Young Judges Competition

The Alpaca Young Judges Competition aims to determine which competitor most correctly assesses a group of four animals and a group of four fleeces.

Horse Young Judges Competition

The Australian Stock Horse Young Judges Competition aims to determine which competitor most correctly assesses a group of four Stock Horse exhibits. Visual judging will take place first with Competitors allowed to judge the four Exhibits. All competitors placing results are compared to experienced Judges, and after careful inspection and consideration the overjudges assess the competitors oral presentation in combination with the competitor judging results to determine a winner. The Pony Young Judges Competition aims to determine which competitor most correctly assesses a group of four Pony exhibits. Visual judging will take place first with Competitors allowed to judge the four Exhibits. All competitors placing results are compared to experienced Judges, and after careful inspection and consideration the overjudges assess the competitors oral presentation in combination with the competitor judging results to determine a winner.

Poultry Young Judges Competition

The Hardfeather Poultry Young Judges Competition aims to determine which competitor most correctly assesses four groups of four exhibits. A standard Hardfeather breed and a bantam Hardfeather breed shall be selected to provide a male and female Class of four Exhibits. All competitors placing results are compared to experienced Judges, and after careful inspection and consideration the overjudges assess the competitors oral presentation in combination with the competitor judging results to determine a winner. The Softfeather Poultry Young Judges Competition aims to determine which competitor most correctly assesses four groups of four exhibits. A standard Softfeather breed and a bantam Softfeather breed shall be selected to provide a male and female Class of four Exhibits. All competitors placing results are compared to experienced Judges, and after careful inspection and consideration the overjudges assess the competitors oral presentation in combination with the competitor judging results to determine a winner. The Waterfowl Young Judges Competition aims to determine which competitor most correctly assesses four groups of four exhibits. Two Waterfowl breeds shall be selected to provide a drake and duck Class of four Exhibits. All competitors placing results are compared to experienced Judges, and after careful inspection and consideration the overjudges assess the competitors oral presentation in combination with the competitor judging results to determine a winner.

Horticulture Young Judges Competition

The Horticulture Young Judges Competition aims to determine which competitor most correctly assesses three (groups) of different species of flowers, with each group consisting of four exhibits.

Types of Young Judges Competitions RAS Young Judges Competitions RAS/ASC Young Judges Competitions Qualifying Details of how to qualify for these Competitions will be listed in the RAS Young Judges Competitions Schedule, which can be found on the Key dates & Schedule page. Eligibility to compete at the Show for RAS ASC finals is dependent on winning local and Zone Qualifying competitions. There are currently seven RAS ASC Judging Competitions and one Cattle Parading competition at the Show, these are State Finals, and Sydney Royal winners then compete at their respective National Finals. National Finals Competitions are held on a rotational basis with other States.
